How To Root Sony Xperia Ray With Android 4.0.3 In 5 Minutes

Most devices running Android must be rooted in order to install custom versions of the Android system such as CyanogenMod. The stock configuration (unrooted), user-installed applications do not have direct access to the flash memory chip on the device and are not able to replace or modify the operating system itself. Rooting is also necessary for certain applications and widgets that require additional system and hardware rights such as rebooting the phone, certain backup utilities, and other access to other hardware such as status LEDs. Rooting is also needed to disable or remove manufacturer-installed applications such as City ID. Rooting the phone typically also includes installing an application called Superuser that supervises which applications are granted root rights.

  7. hi there! glad to check this site. i hope you can help me with my problem on my Xpera Ray.

    here’s the scenario…

I have recently updated my phone’s software since PC Companion prompted there’s an update for 4.1.B.0.431. It took a while for me to do the process and just while the update was about to finish, my netbook restarted and the update wasn’t done successfully. When I tried to update again, it took a while and when I unplugged the USB and turned on the phone, I lost my contacts and apps. The worst thing is, I can’t access interenet even though data traffic is on.

I would appeciate your response! Thank you! 🙂

    • After update, you have to download the internet settings and need to restart your phone. If you can’t download or any error occurs during settings download, your data operator will help you to get the settings for xperia ray.

      • thanks for the quick response..

so you mean error occurred because I don’t have the internet settings and not because of the software update itself?

alright, if that’s the case I’ll just manually grab the settings through my network provider. thanks!

    • Hello Leandro..

      Welcome to SparkyHub.

Please check the below steps and try it one more time:

      1. Make sure that USB Debugging in your SONY Xperia Ray from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”. The USB Debugging option should be ticked. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.

      2. Open the rooting cmd program with full administrative privileges.(In windows 7, right click on the program and click on “Run as administrator”.

  9. The rooting went down, but I forgot to give ‘run as administrator’ privileges when started the .bat file. Obviously writing problems repatedly occured during the procedure and I have no superuser app, busybox has been succesfully installed, and ‘all done’ were written out. I am at a loss how to proceed. Luckily, everything works as mush as I can judge that. 4.1.B.0.587.

  10. Correction. However the script stated that the files have been written out, the root explorer revealed there’s no corresponding directory, consequently a big nothing have I done, hopefully. Then why were printed out ‘all done’? May or shall I give it another go?

  11. I connect my internet network throught mobile data instead of the wifi. After upgrade to 4.0.4 the application like FB, Twitter failed to connect through it. How do i solved this?

  12. I lost my contact after I updated my xperia ray to version 4.0.3
Can you please tell me how to get it back if I forgot to backup it?

  13. My phone model is version no. 4.1.B.0.587(update Provided by sony). Will i be able to root my phone….I am planning to upgrade to jellybean..will it work as fine ?…If any error occured in between, Will i be able to downgrade to a previous version of android
